Led Zeppelin Tour 2008

Led Zeppelin Tour 2008 or not? It looks like it is going to happen… or not?

Firstly announced on NME after Ian Astbury declared during one of his gigs in Cincinnati USA on November 17th “We’ll be back next year, because we’re opening for a band you may have heard of. The name starts with an ‘L’ and has a ‘Z’ in it”, the reunion tour of one the greatest rock band of all time has been subject to many rumours and stories. However rumours seem a little too precise to be totally untrue…

According to Gigwise “Bosses at Cardiff’s Millennium stadium have admitted that they are in talks with the band’s management about performing at the venue next year.” The news was revealed by the WRU’s head man Roger Lewis who is personal friends of Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones.

He said to the South Wales Echo: “We would love to welcome Led Zeppelin and we have already put in a request to Harvey Goldsmith (the band’s promoter).

“We have a good relationship with Harvey, who also handles Bruce Springsteen who is coming to the stadium.

“Initially, Harvey said they were only going to do a one-off gig but now they are considering a tour.

“The thing is, we are the only stadium in Britain with a retractable roof and we can guarantee a perfect event for 70,000 people. There’s nowhere else in the country that can do that.”

To add to the confusion Led Zeppelin members do not seem to hold the same view about future shows.

Lead singer Robert Plant has been quoted as saying “there’ll be one show and that’s it”, whereas guitarist Jimmy Page insisted: “It’s a bit selfish to do just one show. If that’s it, we probably shouldn’t have taken the genie out of the bottle.” Robert orJimmy, you choose…

Following the huge reunion gig at the O2 Arena in London on December 12th, where only a few chosen ones have had the chance of a lifetime to see Led Zeppelin perform again, a few more in the UK and around the world may well a new opportunity to rock again in 2008…
